Filex 2019 Insights from Duncan Marchant
What was your Filex 2019 hi-light – from an education perspective?
What is the best workout program? It’s the one our clients will actually do regularly. What is the best weight loss program? It’s the one our clients will actually stick with and learn from. There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution to our poor health status in Australia and we need to embrace everything that works, not just our own offerings. Small steps forward are important and need to be supported. Good habit stacking and a focus on behavioural goals instead of outcome goals, will provide long term positive lifestyle improvement.
What are 3 Golden Nuggets you are leaving with?
- The importance of creating, coaching and checking a succinct on boarding process. Not only for new employees but also new members.
- Only 50% of the learning for the weekend takes place within the sessions. Buying lunch for mentors and picking their brains, taking your team out for dinner, joining in industry breakfasts and networking with colleagues at organised workouts are all great ways to get ‘under the hood’ insights.
- Technology is here and impacting our entire industry but nothing beats a consistently positive customer service experience for retention and word of mouth lead generation.
Why should someone attend Filex 2020?
I think the question is why would you not? I have been attending Filex since 1996 and find it just as inspiring now as I did back then. My role in the industry has changed many times from a receptionist, salesperson, personal trainer or group exercise instructor through to a club manager or multi club owner but I always seem to find exactly what I am looking for each year. If you are serious about a future in our industry, you must attend in 2020, no matter which corner of our vast industry you serve.
