Motionsoft Technology Summit | Takeaways From Pam Kufahl of Club Industry
Overall, I saw four takeaways:
- The industry has a lot of data but it doesn’t always know what to do with it
- Technology can help to personalize the fitness experience, something that members seem to want (prescribing and recommending workouts specific to them)
- Technology, particularly in the form of home-based, virtual, on-demand workouts, has the potential to reach non-gym goers, get them comfortable with the gym and pull them through the doors.
- Technology should simplify the process, not complicate it (from online class bookings to online joining to cancellations)
Pamela Kufahl, director of content for Club Industry, began covering the fitness industry as managing editor for Club Industry in 2002, later becoming editor-in-chief. In 2014, she moved into her current position and took the brand completely digital. At that time, she also began planning and overseeing the conference portion of the brand’s annual Club Industry Show. Prior to this, Pamela had helped transition the brand to a news/business orientation.
