Start up a knock-out Boot Camp!
I was recently chatting to a personal trainer who was keen to start up a Boot Camp. He had tried once before but without much success, so it was essential that second time round he put all the right steps in place before getting started. With the summer months on the way, I’m guessing there are a number of you who might also be thinking about doing some outdoor training, 1:1′s or group. So here are a few tips to help get you on the right track.
Do your research
- Before you do anything, check out your outdoor venue options. Many councils charge a fee to use an oval or sports field, so its important you know all the rules and regulations before you get to far into planning.
- Secondly, check out the competition. Scope out the park or venue, on the days and times you want to train there. Check if there are any other sports or programs running that might overlap with the space you are planning to use.
Get Planning
- Write a detailed plan. How many Boot Camps per week, How many people per Boot Camp, Cost per person, Cost structure (how many weeks) How will they pay (upfront / direct deposit etc)
Dress Rehearsal
- To get started, invite friends and family and do a few practice sessions – complimentary. This will be a great test run for you, plus once they have done the training, then ask them to each invite two friends along to try your Boot Camp.
Be Prepared
- Write yourself a mini financial plan. How much do you need to earn to make it worthwhile, how much will it cost to get started? Consider costs to buy equipment etc.
- Write a detailed class plan for the first few sessions so the sessions run smoothly and you can focus your attention on your class members
Cover yourself
- Make sure your insurance is up to date, plus check your level of cover. Some large grounds or venues require higher than usual Public Liability Insurance. Check with your insurance company before you get started.
