#Filex2017 Insights From Annalee Brumby A Studio Owner
Why do I attend Filex?
Well, ever gone without coffee for days when you are used to consuming 3 cups a day? That’s kind of how it is for me. I am a city girl at heart and so coming over from Hobart, FILEX is my annual oxygen hit for inspiration, energy and slap yourself in the face moments that help me stay committed enough to put in the hard yards in my business.
At year 3.2 in my business now, a boutique PT studio with 4 casual trainers and a part time P.A. I still have a lot of growing and systemising to do. I still make mistakes and have my crisis moments. I’ve woken up as we all have some days and asked the question “why”. Balancing business with motherhood presents limits on time so working smarter and focusing on the most critical activities daily has to be the name of the game to stop the wheels from falling off.
This year I chose a mix of both business sessions and group training sessions, feeling that staying on the cutting edge of group training trends is probably pretty wise given its continuing and ever growing popularity.
My top 3 takeaways from these sessions were as follows!
- Without Systems You Cannot Grow Your Business. Full stop. I’ve been told before but I needed to be told again.
- You Need A Website That Not Only Looks Pretty But That Sells and Captures Leads. People are spending all their time online and on social media and like to buy stuff in their own space and own time so it’s probably time for a re-vamp if you haven’t already.
- The Concept of “Mindful Fitness” Is Gaining Traction – helping clients connect with themselves, their bodies and the studio or gym community is a MUST if you want to stay relevant in today’s market.
From these key takeaways, it’s also vital for me to make an action plan. If I leave it too long it’s too easy not to go back through the notes and to forget and slip back into old habits. Bill McBride who presented “Winning in Business Requires Strategy” suggests making a 30 day, 60 day and 90 day plan. Business doesn’t stop for any of us after FILEX but reaping the benefits means actioning what you learned! Have an awesome 2017 everyone and see you in Sydney next year.
