Does A Zebra With Stripes Too Big For It Inspire You?
So the last weeks we shared two subtle Gold’s Gym ads that focused on weight loss:
And this week here is another.
We have to admit when we first saw this we were like “What the?” We were trying to work out why a Zebra would be used to market a weight loss business.
It took several minutes – minutes you do not have when marketing or advertising your product – before we realised the stripes were too big. The Zebra had lost the weight.
Out of 10, we would suggest this to be 8 or 9 for being clever but just too clever and would be surprised if it worked – ie brought in more customers.

It isn’t relatable is the issue for me, a zebra losing weight doesn’t resonate with humans. The wedding ring campaign would still have impact even if people didn’t notice the ring size, it still has a call to action of losing pounds before your wedding day. Golds push the boundary normally to good effect but this one misses the mark for mine.
