    The AM Announcement

    The massive news for Active Management and me is that in 2020 I will be working for REX Roundtables in the US!  This year I will be chairing the:

    • Sales Managers Roundtable
    • Personal Trainers Roundtable
    • Marketing Managers Roundtable

    And later in the year taking on a new Roundtable for US fitness businesses.  That’s 4 new roundtables and several trips to the US.

    This is a huge opportunity and responsibility that I am really looking forward to.  Thank you to Eddie and Will from REX Roundtables and good luck to Mary on your journey!

    It will not impact my Australian and New Zealand Roundtables. The various Australian and New Zealand Industry Leaders Roundtable are taking applications now:

    • Australian Club Owners Roundtable
    • NSW Personal Trainers Roundtable
    • New Zealand Fitness Business Roundtable

    Message me now or drop me an email: [email protected] to find out more. If you’re based in the US, then REX Roundtables is available for you to join. Contact Eddie Tock – [email protected] Europeans contact Fausto di Guilio – [email protected]

    To chat with me about Roundtable, make a time that suits you by clicking here.

    Final Thought

    Using the data you already have, why not identify your best members.  Identify:

    • Which sex of your members stay the longest? Or
    • What age group of members stay the longest? Or
    • What suburb do your members live that stay the longest? Or
    • A combination of all the above.
    • Or even all of the above for members who spend the most?

    When you identify these members in your own database then you can target them with your social media ads both with placement and a very specific message!

    Start doing this and you’ll attract better qualified leads and higher quality members – based on your own data!

  • REX Growth Sees Justin Tamsett Join the US Team

    REX Growth Sees Justin Tamsett Join the US Team

    In 2020, Justin Tamsett one of the industry’s thought leaders will be joining the REX Chairs Team in the US.

    REX Roundtables is the longest running business and personal development program in the fitness industry,” said Eddie Tock, CEO of REX Roundtables. “Will Phillips, the founder of REX Roundtables started our 1st one in 1989 and currently have over 250 REX members that own over 2,000 clubs worldwide.  We have REX Roundtables operating in the US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and the Middle East.  And we’re excited to have JT join our US Team of Chairs.”

    “Mary Laudati has been leading our Roundtables for Sales Managers, Marketing Directors and Personal Training Directors and moves on to a new opportunity outside the industry. Her passion, energy and insights will be greatly missed. JT will take over as chair of these Roundtables as well as a new Club Owners REX Roundtable by mid-2020.  He will also continue to run his 4 Roundtables in Australia.”

    An industry veteran of 30 years, JT has had the REX license in Australia since 2005 and conducted over 200 meetings in Australia and New Zealand.  He has spoken in 22 countries and in 2020 will speak for the 15th consecutive year at IHRSA.  He is the owner of The Fitness Business Podcast which has become the go to fitness podcast on the planet.

    “JT’s international experience and network will add a new layer of expertise to our REX program in the US,” said Eddie.

    JT joins REX Chairs Brent Darden, Mark Miller, Will Phillips and Tock – a combined 163 years’ experience in the fitness industry.

    “I have a personal goal of having more people move and move more often, to lower the health care costs across the globe.  I believe that working with owners, marketers, sales people and PT’s we can achieve this together.  REX Roundtables is the perfect forum to learn from each other, share best practices and challenge each other to grow.  I am super excited for this opportunity,” said JT.

    “Joining a roundtable was the first thing I did when I opened my first club back in 1994.  When I sold my club, running roundtables became my passion as I had experienced the benefits.  Those benefits were both personal and professional.  Roundtable members are so supportive that life becomes easier knowing you have a group of people who understand what you are going through in business,” said JT.

    About REX Roundtables:

    Founded in 1989, A REX Roundtable is your personal, advisory board composed of 15-18 smart and successful CEOs who meet regularly to help each other improve the performance of their business and the quality of their personal lives. REX carefully crafts the chemistry of each Roundtable so there are no competitors, strong similarities, yet a broad range of complementary expertise among the members.

    REX Roundtables is a global organization that runs Executive Mastermind roundtables for business owners and chief executives that share BEST PRACTICES. Currently, there are 12 REX roundtable groups in the US, 3 in Europe and 4 in Australia, with over 250 successful executives and club owners. The AM Pitch

    Mondays are the days we make decisions, so today is the day to make a huge decision about your business development not just in 2020 but on-going.

    One Reason To Join The Industry Leaders Roundtable in 2020: we examine everything that’s happening in the International fitness industry. In order to stay ahead of your competition you have to be looking in the right place. And with running a business a full time job, how do you have time?

    Most owners do not have time, so they ride the industry waves once they have broken. At Roundtable, we examine what’s happening in the industry and SWOT what’s happening to determine if it’s a trend or a fad. And if it’s a trend, what’s our strategy for using that trend to our advantage. Roundtable will open your eyes to things you never knew.

    How much networking are you doing?  Networking is the contact sport of the new decade.

    Quite seriously, inside your fitness business – no matter the size – is a plethora of opportunities for you to explore.  This could include:

    • Group memberships for companies and businesses;
    • On site wellness talks;
    • Managing on-site gyms;
    • Or just plain old referrals.

    As a leader of our business, we should be demonstrating to our team networking in the community and seizing upon any opportunity to build our brand or expose our brand.

    Schedule time to walk the gym floor and really meet your members.  Networking costs zero dollars, the benefits are boundless, and will add some real excitement to your daily tasks as you learn new things about your members.  Worst case scenario, you’ll have made a member feel great from your conversation.  Networking is not a spectator sport it’s a contact sport.

    Final Thought

    Hire for attitude, train for skill.

    In reality, we can train anybody to do any job. You cannot train attitude.

    Your prospective employee either has the attitude you are looking for or not.  You want to see smiling, hear laughter and experience their empathy. None of this a staff training program will give you.

    This means throw your traditional interview model out the window and start again! Start with a process where you will see the prospective employee as the real person.  You’ll either warm to their authenticity or identify they are not the right fit.

    My advice hire somebody with an absolutely amazing personality and attitude and then train them for skill.

    Final Thought

    If you want to move your team, your members or your prospects from a comfortable status quo in work or life to a more challenging position – eg a non-exerciser to exerciser; a non-sales team member to having to sell – then they must trust you.  Trust will give them confidence to make the move to that uncomfortable place.

    And what’s the fastest way to erode that trust – not do what you promise!  So the simple way to get the most from your team or build member retention or even close more sales is to do what you promise.  Whatever you say you will do . . . actually do it!

  • One Fitness Business Owner Is On A Permanent Holiday And The Roundtable Helped Him

    One Fitness Business Owner Is On A Permanent Holiday And The Roundtable Helped Him

    Two weeks ago I received this message on Facebook:

    ILR Testimonial

    People ask me what benefit will I get from the Industry Leaders Roundtable in Australia and New Zealand or REX Roundtables in the US and Europe and I have never said “It will allow you to have a permanent holiday and live the dream!”

    A Roundtable can be the most profound and powerful business and personal development program you ever get involved with as it is so unique.  As a former gym owner, I joined a Roundtable and was simply overwhelmed with what it did for me personally – as a leader.

    In fact, I was so impressed with the program that I took the Australian licence for REX Roundtables and have never looked back.  I have been running Roundtables since 2004, which means roughly 252 meetings!

    I have seen first-hand the impact these groups have on people’s business: new profit centres; improved KPI’s, expansions, sales, marketing, retention and more profit.

    I have also witnessed the genuine support, friendship and dare I say love between members to help them become better business leaders and humans.

    You may qualify to join one of these Industry Leaders Roundtables in Australia or New Zealand:

    • Australian Gym Owners Roundtable – meets 3 times a year for 2 days;
    • New Zealand Fitness Business Owners Roundtable – meets 3 times a year for 2 days
    • Victorian Fitness Business Owners Roundtable – meets 5 times a year for a day;
    • NSW Personal Trainers Roundtable – meets 6 times a year on a Friday.

    Call me 0499 088 623 or drop me an email at [email protected] and we can organise a time to chat for you to find out more.

    If you’re in North America, Eddie Tock is the man to chat with.  You can call him on +1 (914) 643-3207 or email him [email protected].  There are Club Owners and General Managers Roundtables!

    If you’re in Europe, Fausto di Giulio is your go to man.  Drop him an email on [email protected].
