  • To Do More Do These 7 Stuffs Really Well

To Do More Do These 7 Stuffs Really Well

Last week I delivered the opening keynote at The Inspire Summit in Beirut Lebanon. I was humbled to be asked and had one goal: lead the delegates to action.

Many keynotes inspire, motivate and entertain. They are memorable for these reasons but they may not lead to actions. I wanted to leave a legacy with the delegates to have them achieve more.

I shared “7 Stuffs You Can Do To Do More!”  Let me explain why I used the word stuff:

    • It’s not a terribly technical word but encompasses so much.
    • It’s not a really inspiring word yet we use it every day.
    • And it’s not a word that the world’s best orators would ever use and yet it spoke directly to the people in the room!

I wore jeans and a t-shirt (with RAW on it) so the group saw me as no-one special. I wanted them to see me as just another human – an authentic and real person who had been through challenges similar to them and someone who continues to work on these stuffs to get better.

I asked everyone to perform a self-audit on how consistent they were on doing each of the 7 stuffs.  As you read this blog, you could do the same – rate yourself out of 10 on your consistency on these stuffs.

    Here they are for you:

    1. Get your shit together about your mornings and how you start your day!
    2. Avoid distractions to have an impactful presence.
    3. Make every meeting outcome based.
    4. Take control of your own personal & professional development.
    5. Give back to your community with mind, muscle or money.
    6. Do the full goal setting process in all aspects of your life.
    7. Ensure you have discipline to persist. You may need to try, try again and even try again to transform your ideas into actions.

I suggested to them that their ideas will spark change. Actions will make change.

Ideas don’t change the world. Actions change the world.

I finished with “Use this stuff and make a difference in your family, in your team, with your customers and in the world.”

I received amazing feedback, including this from a well-respected industry colleague, Jonathon Ross “Get stuffs JT.

A massive thank you to Patrick & the team from Inspire Fitness Academy for inviting me to speak and assist the Lebanese fitness industry to #thinkanddodifferent.  In addition to the keynote, I presented 5 sessions and sat on a panel to discuss the future for the fitness industry in Lebanon. #InspireSummit2019.

  • Inside The Lebanese Fitness Industry

    Inside The Lebanese Fitness Industry

Now I’ve been back a few days I’ve had time to digest my experiences at #InspireSummit2019 and looking at the industry.

    The Market

I did only visit 3 gyms, so these could be broad generalisations:

    • Looking at the people in the gyms, it appeared many people are joining for the vanity benefits of exercise.  Lots of people in the strength area of the gyms.
    • It was also apparent that the industry has not yet cracked the 40+ years of age market or the female market.

This means there is huge opportunity for the industry to grow – especially as only 3% of the population are gym users.

    Inside The Gyms

Kudos to Technogym as they had the fit outs at the gyms I attended.

The 3 gyms I went to were very well equipped. They had some unique aspects but generally looked very similar. You can peek behind the curtain of these gyms with photos in our Facebook group – click here to join.

There was a lack of functional training space with huge amounts of pin loaded equipment.

The group fitness studios were spacious and well equipped but didn’t seen well patronized in the clubs I visited.

The change rooms were awesome, spacious and impressive!

    Personal Training

The majority of trainers I saw were buffed and athletic trainers. They looked like they loved the product of exercise and were users. They were not intimidating in body shape but rather inspiring.

They’re training is very strength based and non-functional. You could say they are waiting for some of the International industry training trends to become common place in their country

    Sales

Fitness First had 2 clubs in Lebanon and they brought a structured sales system to the industry. While they have now withdrawn from the market the sales process continues but in a watered down version.

As we know a message can be distorted when playing a game of Chinese Whispers. This seems to be the case with sales systems.

This means there is a huge opportunity to focus on benefit based tours and a simple analysis of data to enhance sales processes.

Instagram Is The Platform Of Choice

Everyone I spoke with told me they communicate and market through Instagram.  They said this is the platform that members and prospects are on.  So I looked on many of their accounts and there are of lots of ‘posing shots’ indicating to me that many members are there for aesthetics as opposed to health reason.

I also wonder if they broaden their marketing if that would mean they would broaden with whom see their message?

Nevertheless, I loved the proactive promotion of ‘hash tags’ for the business in Zone Fitness.

    The Opportunity

What I saw and experienced is that the industry is in ‘go-go phase.’ It is an industry made up of motivated, passionate, and caring people. The work force have the same desire to promote exercise to the same level as the rest of the world.

The challenge or the opportunity for the industry is to show the Lebanese population that going to the gym is not about aesthetics. Showing the health benefits will open up the product to so many more people.

Watch this space as I think the Lebanese fitness industry will do amazing things in the coming years with qualified fitness professionals who are going to be registered.

  • The Future Of The Australian Fitness Industry

The Future Of The Australian Fitness Industry

Last week Fitness Australia, CEO Barrie Elvish, sat down with me to chat about the current state of the Australian fitness industry and what is on the horizon.

We covered a variety of topics:

    • Has Barrie drunk the fitness industry Kool-Aid?
    • Why getting more people physically active is good for gyms?
    • The World Health Organisation recognises Fitness Australia in it’s new movement to get more people moving.
    • Various government initiatives around Australia that are promoting physical activity – Barrie names the states!
    • Who have Fitness Australia been meeting with over the past 3 months.
    • Why government, health funds and commercial operations want to see the fitness industry have a credible registration system to minimise risk when they refer people to gyms and trainers.
    • Changes to the registration scheme.
    • What the 2019 Board nominations will look like.

You’ll also see who the man behind the title is. This candid interview shows the transparency of Barrie and the direction of Fitness Australia. It’s exciting, enlightening and inspiring to see what the future holds for the average Australian and their exercise habits AND the fitness industry.

Enjoy and then I ask you to support Fitness Australia. Continue to register with them, become a member and stand behind our peak body as they have big things planned.

  • Press Release: Myzone Launches MZ-Book

    Press Release: Myzone Launches MZ-Book

As we near the end of 2018, Myzone is getting ready to release the final new features from the 2018 road map.

MZ-Book is the latest feature be launched and like MZ-Instruct,  fits in with the existing Myzone offering for clubs, bringing even greater value to the Myzone System for operators.

MZ-Book is a class booking feature within the Myzone app.  It allows operators to upload a class schedule directly into the owners account so that members can reserve a spot in any class within the Club Branded Myzone app.

You can determine the amount of spaces available, the location of the rooms, whether there is an extra cost and even build and book a particular spot, such as a bike.

What is unique about MZ-Book is that not only do instructors get visibility of all participants as soon as members book and check into a class, but the ability to quickly and easily connect with participants through Myzone, thus building and strengthening the digital connection and community within a club. Oh… and it also allows waiting lists, with push notifications if someone cancels and a spot becomes available and unlike most booking apps, your customers can still view your timetable offline.

Users do not require a Myzone belt to download and register a Myzone account at a club as Myzone have set up the use for anyone.

Dave Wright says “MZ-Book is our next feature on from Myzone 3.0 to be released. Once again this is offered at zero extra cost. MZ-Book is a fantastic way to improve Myzone awareness and usage at clubs and is an ideal tool for those who do not offer an online or app based booking function”.

MZ-Book is live today and can actually work standalone from your Membership Management System. However, a simple integration with your MMS can also help create a frictionless member experience even tieing into your payment provider to take payments and buy credits through the app.

If you would like to activate MZ-Book for your facility today, please email [email protected]

As part of Myzone’s 2018 road map, the MZ-Fitness Test, and MZ-Instruct are already live, with MZ-Body Scan, MZ-Motion and MZ-20 Home Scale preparing to be launched before the end of 2018.

  • Press Release: New Australian Fitness Industry Code of Practice

Press Release: New Australian Fitness Industry Code of Practice

Today Fitness Australia, the peak fitness industry association, released a National Fitness Industry Code of Practice, the first of its kind in Australia.

Jayne Blake, Fitness Australia’s incoming Chairperson explains that the consolidation of all State and Territory Codes of Practice into one national Code is a major milestone for the fitness industry.

We took six previous state and territory codes of practice, the Fitness Australia Business Principles guide, current Australian consumer law and extensive industry consultation as reference points to draft the National Fitness Industry Code of Practice,” said Jayne.

“We’re proud to say that this code is now the new standard of business operation in the contemporary Australian fitness industry, and is supported by the Australian Fitness Industry Standards Council.”

Designed for fitness service operators in the industry, the Code offers clear guidance that meets legislative requirements for business operation, nationally.

The purpose of the Code is to promote appropriate standards of trading, inspire consumer confidence and enable business operators to conduct services in a professional and ethical manner.

“It’s important that we, as the peak national association, help fitness businesses implement a benchmark and make it simple for them to apply the Code to their business, in particular streamlining it for implementation on a national scale,” said Jayne.

“Our organisation exists to empower the industry to engage more Australians in quality health and fitness services – this is one the ways in which we’re contributing to professionalising exercise and building consumer confidence,” added Jayne.
