Top Tips From Michelle Segar On The Fitness Business Podcast
Here is what resonated for me on our most recent podcast from Michelle Segar:
“Our job is to figure out what hasn’t worked and why, and help people develop a solution tailored to who they are” Michelle Segar
“Move in ways that feel good to you, whatever that means, and you will become more active over time” Michelle Segar
And Michelle’s top tips are:
- The meaning you have for exercise has been constructed by our interactions from physical activity, and if being active doesn’t feel good to a person, then it creates a negative meaning or association with exercise.
- The wrong ‘why’s put people on a path of unstable controlling motivation, it leads people to feel like exercise is a chore.
- As fitness professionals, the language we use and the symbols we use to describe exercise matters to the mindset of our clients.
- We need to remember that, most people can not easily sustain a behaviour day in and day out, for the rest of their lives, that actually feels bad to them.
- We need to encourage clients to discover what feels good to them. If we care about creating sustainable motivation, we need to help our clients identify what will work for them.
- Our job is to figure out what hasn’t worked and why, and help people develop a solution tailored to who they are.
