Gym Marketing – Why People Don’t Join Gyms

Thanks to studies completed by IHRSA we know people are not interested in joining gyms owing to:

    • Physique anxiety
    • Feel isolated and like a klutz
    • And the hard sell

If you know these fears, then your marketing must address these fears.

You must also be very clear in the needs for your core customer. You may have several core customers, which means you will have several marketing pieces.

Your marketing and your product must show the solution to these fears and meet the needs if you want people to respond to your marketing..

Great video for gyms and fitness centres on marketing ideas and tips.

This information is critical to designing the best marketing piece.

  • Members want more fitness classes

    Members want more fitness classes

    Ezypay survey

The fitness industry survey team is running the annual survey of clubs and members in Australia and New Zealand.  This year we have also included Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

So far we have had over 5,000 members reply and we are getting loads of valuable comments from members on many different topics.

A new question we asked members this year was “if your club had more money to invest where should they spend it?”

    Here is what members wanted;

    1. More group fitness classes
    2. A bigger facility
    3. Better equipment
    4. Better facilities like showers, change rooms and steam rooms also made the list
    5. As did extended opening hours on the weekend and early in the mornings.
    6. Air conditioning made it onto the list too.

Group fitness expert Mel Tempest comments “Group fitness is growing at a rapid rate in clubs with group fitness program providers creating cool class concepts with top 40 music allowing instructors to turn their classes into rock star events. Benefits are displayed in marketing, wearable devices and happy members.”

One member suggested “more diverse classes for education and not just workouts” This is a great insight into maximising the revenue from a fitness club. This member wanted to access different educational classes related to health and fitness.

“Better and more equipment” and “machine maintenance and cleanliness” were common responses.

So if you are a gym owner or manager and have a little extra money to invest this year in your club please listen to your members and make sure you put more group fitness classes into your timetable.

The fitness industry survey is still open for both members and clubs.  The results are compiled and are available to everyone for free.  To participate in the survey or to download the results please visit this page http://www.ezypay.com/fitness-industry-survey/

  • Gym Marketing – What Should My Gym Marketing Budget Be?

Gym Marketing – What Should My Gym Marketing Budget Be?

Gym Marketing – What Should My Gym Marketing Budget Be?

Justin Tamsett of Active Management answers the question of ‘What Should My Gym Marketing Budget Be?’ in this gym marketing tip.

I am regularly asked at conferences, how much should I spend on my marketing?

My answer, which is rarely liked, is “Whatever it takes to get the results in your business!”

You see there is not a simple answer to this question, so yes it is a little cryptic.

Great video for gyms and fitness centres on marketing ideas and tips.

What should your gym marketing budget be?

Generally, I would suggest between 5% and 15% of turnover — which is a huge range.

Obviously, if you need more leads, you will probably have to spend more.

A better question and one is to answer provided you track your source of enquiries is “Where should the majority of my marketing budget go?”
