    FitnessBiz Brunch Rocked The UK!

It may have been a month ago but we are still receiving feedback from people who came to FitnessBiz in Manchester in the UK!Map of United Kingdom

Simon from Trefford Leiure said: Thank you for FitnessBiz! Great day very inspirational! It’s easy to get bogged down in day to day work and it’s hard to get outside of the ‘norm’! But I found today very enriching lots of which made perfect sense to our industry and our business – challenge is to get other members of the team to buy in and take these in board – but I will endeavour to try! If I can apply only a couple of your ‘golden nuggets’ I’ll be happy!

This month our topic for FitnessBiz Brunch is getting you the most leads ever in 2014!

  • Creating Headlines That Pop!

    Creating Headlines That Pop!

If you have ever heard Justin speak on marketing, you will know what he thinks about your headline in any marketing piece. It is of the UTMOST importance! Last month, we found Epic Failthese great ideas by Susan Harrow, media coach.

    1. The How To …

‘How to Get on Oprah in 10 Easy Steps’

When people want to learn about something they turn to ‘How-to’ information as their quickest source. Using numbers is one way to let your audience know that what follows will be easy to digest.

    2. The Command …

    ‘Become an Internet Millionaire!’

Though this is a frequent cry, it still has an immediate effect. Why? Commands assure you that there is a way to get what you want from the advice that follows. They touch the ‘I want that!’ place inside you. They tell the reader that it’s possible to achieve the benefit you’re ‘advertising’.

    3. The Shocking Statement …

    ‘Wives Who Don’t Want Sex’

Bring up the unlikely, the counterintuitive. Provocative statements get our attention like an electrical shock. They make you sit up and say, ‘Really?’

    4. The Question …

‘Do you really know your mate?’

People often unconsciously answer the question you pose in their minds. Your body copy will piggyback with an answer that includes statistics.

    5. The NEW News Item …

‘Find out about the only drug that cures unhappiness’

The latest newsflash needs to introduce something truly new in order to be valid. To be newsworthy, ‘new news’ promises excitement, informs, or states something helpful that will benefit a lot of people. Words like, ‘only, new, introducing, powerful, and first’, are a few words that insist on attention. If you say you’re first, it needs to be true.

This Arsenal Football Quote Says It All

On my recent trip to the UK, I was fortunate enough to visit the office of one of the UK’s most successful soccer/football teams. It was an incredible experience.

I guess these two quotes some up why they are successful.

This was on the wall in the membership office:

And this is what I see as I enter the stadium as an opposition player:

  • Gold’s The Pictures Tell 1000 Words

Gold’s The Pictures Tell 1000 Words

We don’t even need the translation for these marketing samples, the image tells us everything!

If you are curious the headline is “Store your winter clothes.”

I like it and really like how they have a male & female version. What do you think?

  • What I Thought Of My First My Zone Class

What I Thought Of My First My Zone Class

Its not that I have never been a fan of My Zone, on the contrary I love the concept.  I consider Emmett Williams and Dave Wright mates, so I hoped that My Zone would be successful for them – and their families, assuming the investment they made!

I will admit though I have not been a promoter of the product. I was more scarred with the false starts the product had had. And as an early adopter I don’t cope with inadequacies. And don’t want to recommend the product because of these.

So I took the advantage of participating in a My Zone class at the IHRSA European Congress and in short . . . very cool!

    My Zone

    I am a fan!

I was really impressed – not with my actual work out – but the information My Zone gave me during my 45 minute session. In fact, thanks to My Zone I know why my work out sucked!

My Zone allowed me to walk away with some real tangible effort levels as opposed to how I felt about my effort. I felt that I was busted but my heart rate told me a completely different story.

The instant feedback on the screen inspired me to work harder, recover and train with a purpose.

The real strength of the program I felt was visually on the big screen. My effort levels were in colour in front of my face and compared to other participants.

The colours are sensational! And logical. They truly create an obvious, slap in the face with a wet fish wake up call when you are not working hard enough.

The product itself will be an asset to any club. My only concern, we are relying on our Team to educate, motivate and encourage usage of My Zone. Although, Iassume if the staff of a facility were as excited as me after my work out, then I am sure they will preach the gospel to the members.

I am not a sales person for the product, so will not go through the versatility of the product or the features. If you want to know that, you contact them – www.MyZone.com. But I would suggest if you want to help your members get results, this product is a no brainer.

Last year I participated in a Fly Wheel class in New York. The feedback you receive from their technology I felt was/is a game changer for a spin program.

What I experienced with a My Zone 2.0 work out, I can see how this could be and is a game changer for the whole gym.

I am a fan of My Zone 2.0.

  • Is Your Website Working?

    Is Your Website Working?

For your car to operate effectively, it needs regular maintenance. Not because technology has changed but general wear and tear. Well, your website needs a regular grease and oil change as things change!Exclamation mark

I read recently that when consumers went to Google to look for information on plasma TVs and ended up at the manufacturer’s website they had links to TV models that were no longer being produced. How does that make them look?

I even had cause to look at my old club’s website. We sold this business 3 years ago and according to the site, we still own the business! How does this make the business look?

‘Website maintenance’, as defined on the Guerilla Marketing website last month, is the art and science of keeping a website current in both technology and content; assuring proper functionality; confirming accuracy of copy; correcting broken links and images; and performing an overall assessment of the site to make sure it still reflects your company properly.

They went on to suggest some things you should check:

    • Any date sensitive content – for example, an announcement of an upcoming event (after the date passes, it should no longer be ‘upcoming’) or a deadline.
    • Functional elements of your website – such as contact us forms, e-commerce and databases. You need to check these to make sure they are functioning properly.
    • External links (links to other sites) on your site – these often change and Google doesn’t like links that go nowhere. Check each to make sure the site you are linking to is still live and that the link location is still correct.
    • Review all of the pages on your site – check all of the links in the navigation bar(s), make sure the structural elements appear correctly on all pages.
    • Check for images which are not displaying correctly or the dreaded ‘red x’.

  • Willows Health & Lifestyle Centre Wins At Fitness Australia Awards

Willows Health & Lifestyle Centre Wins At Fitness Australia Awards

At the annual Fitness Australia Awards last Friday night, Troy, Sue, Craig & Amber all represented Willows Health & Lifestyle Centre from Toowoomba and they won the ‘bestest’ club in the land!

    Willows Team

Coincidently, we had just had an Industry Leaders Roundtable meeting the 3 days before at the club.

When you host the meeting, you put yourself in the hot seat as the ILR provides feedback on your club.  And after visiting the club, it is not surprising Willows won.

The ILR really struggled to provide any massive “Ah-ha’s” for Troy and his Team to make the club better. Some paint touch ups, some uniform suggestions and some out of the box ideas was all. It was a challenge to find any massive game changing or member boosting ideas.

But they have a member boosting idea now . . . a Fitness Australia Grand Award!

Congrats to everyone involved with Willows. The Team is well lead by Troy but the Team are the ones who interact with the members and carry out the vision.

This is a well deserved award, so bask in the glory! Take time out this week to enjoy this award!

  • Personal Training Business Admin Tip: Fitness Australia

Personal Training Business Admin Tip: Fitness Australia

As a personal trainer, you are expected to keep up to date with current fitness news and information, trends and research.

But its fair to say, life gets busy we work long hours and sometimes its easy to let it slip for a few months right?

OK, so lets be really clear about this one. Keeping your PT skill set (which includes reading new research, learning about new equipment or training techniques, updating your first aid and CPR) are ALL parts of running your PT Business.

The fitness industry is constantly moving and evolving and theories and practices that were relevant 5 years ago may no longer be current today.

In order for your business to be seen as current and attract new customers, its essential your skill set is also relevant and up to date.

Associations like Fitness Australia create CEC’s for this exact reason. So when you are writing or reviewing your business plan, include a section in your budget for Training and Development, so you can keep yourself at the top of your game.
