  • Fuel Women’s Fitness Business Summit

    Fuel Women’s Fitness Business Summit

Fuel Women’s Fitness Business Summit brings together industry leaders to share and strategise on innovation, failure and success

SYDNEY, February 1st, 2023 — Rachael Newsham – Program Director for Les Mills BODYCOMBAT ® , BODYCOMBAT VR (named Best App of 2022 by Meta), and former choreographer and face of SH’BAM® – joins the presenter line-up at Fuel Women’s Fitness Business Summit, the event’s co-founders announced today.

Newsham joins fellow industry heavyweights such as Amy Boone Thompson, owner and CEO of IDEA Health & Fitness Association, and Diana Williams, founder and owner of Fernwood Fitness, at the event on Thursday 27th April 2023.

The theme for this year’s summit is ‘Innovation. Failure. Success.’, which seeks to focus on triumphantly navigating challenging personal and business conditions.

“We’re being constantly warned about the turbulent economic times on the not-too-distant horizon,” said co-founder Alisha Smith, “but this isn’t the first time we’ve been faced with the prospect of devastating downturns.

“We’ve assembled some brilliant speakers who have weathered a multitude of business and personal crises. They’ll be sharing stories of, and actionable strategies for, innovating when the chips are down, surviving failures and pushing hard towards success, no matter the economic climate.”

Smith’s co-founder, Deborah Goldberg, believes that banding together creates a stronger industry than attempting to survive solo.

“Every year Fuel reinforces the belief that we’re so much stronger together,” said Goldberg. “The women from the industry that come together to learn, connect and share continue to tell us that it’s the place they go to get re-inspired and to remember that they don’t have to do it – business, family, relationships, leadership – alone.

“Ultimately, that’s what helps us succeed, as individuals, as businesses, and as an industry.”

Alongside Newsham, Williams and Boone Thompson, Fuel 2023 features sales expert Abbie White; Michelle Furniss, General Manager, Xplor; Emma Masters, Co-founder, Exercise to Experience and Therapy Fitness; and more.

The 1-day event is hosted live at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney’s iconic The Rocks district and is supported by Les Mills Asia Pacific, IDEA Health & Fitness Association, Fernwood Fitness, MyZone, Xplor, Hapana, AFAA, NASM, and BF Brokers.

  • Your Ultimate Guide To IHRSA 2023!

Your Ultimate Guide To IHRSA 2023!

We are just over a month away from the IHRSA convention in San Diego, so I thought I would share some thoughts for you on what not to miss and why you need to get to San Diego on March 20th for 3 days.

    Presentations Not To Miss

    Lock in the following presentations:

    • Monday 20th @ 9am – New Business Trends & Shifts. I am on the panel with 2 other REX Roundtable Chairs: Brent Darden & Fausto Di Giulio.
    • Wednesday 22nd @ 11:45 – Creating World Class Experiences Through World Class Team Leadership. I am leading this panel.

Further, our Fitness Business Podcast hosts are also speaking:

    • Monday 20th @ 2:45pm – 4 Gens by 2 Gens: How to Drive Four Generations to Your Gym with Sarah and Sal Pellegrino
    • Monday 20th @ 4pmFitness Career Mapping: Charting A Career Growth Path with Dori

Key Notes Are A Must Attend

I am a huge fan of IHRSA key notes and this year will be no different.  They all look excellent so make sure you don’t miss them!

In fact, you can get a sneak peak of the energetic Cassandra Worthy on the Fitness Business Podcastclick here to listen. Thanks to IHRSA and Matrix for the opportunity to chat with Cassandra.

    Clubs You Must Visit

There are lots of great gyms to visit in San Deigo but here are my top 3 plus a bonus!

Crossfit Invictus – Just 1 mile from the Convention Centre is one of the world’s best CrossFit boxes.  Do a class experience the world class coaches.

Fit Athletic – There is a Fit Athletic at Petco Park where you’ll find many delegates but I highly recommend going the extra distance to the club in Little Italy.  You will not be disappointed.

Revel Fit Club – An exquisite fit out, tough work out and quality coaches.  You’ll also see all the flexibility of the FitBench. It is 8 miles from the Convention Centre so book a class and head over.

Bonus – opening March 1st is an Aussie gym called The Yard San Diego.  It will still be in its first 30 days of opening and is just 6 miles from the Convention Centre.  Book a class and jump in an Uber – don’t forget to take your Myzone belt!

Pssst – I would love you to head a little further north and visit my REX member club: Parisi Speed School San Diego.  Paul and his team run an awesome facility and well worth a look – especially if you want to make money from youth programs.  Again an Uber as it is just under 16 miles.

Where You Cannot Get Into – Unless You Know Someone

Other than the numerous social activities where invites are essential, there are two amazing educational events outside of the IHRSA event that if you can get invited to, you MUST attend:

    1. The Myzone Hot Breakfast – A fantastic way to start the day! You’ll learn the latest in tech and get an update on the development of Myzone.  This is literally one of the hottest tickets in town!  If you don’t have Myzone, get it before IHRSA and ask for a Hot Breakfast ticket!
    2. REX Pre-IHRSA Event – The day before the IHRSA event REX Roundtables will have it’s annual networking and educational session.  This year Leo Bottary, author of PeerNovation, will deliver a key note.  Want to know more about this event, drop Eddie Tock an email.

I’ll look forward to seeing you at IHRSA 2023!

  • Thank you AtmosphereTV and Myzone

    Thank you AtmosphereTV and Myzone

We just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to Troy from Atmosphere TV and Mike from Myzone.

AtmosphereTV is a great new addition to your visual experiences in your clubs.  We saw it in the US several years ago and was super impressed. So when Troy Cooper contacted us and said he was bringing this into Australia and he’d like to offer a lucky door prize for FitnessBiz I was like “hell yeah!”
AtmosphereTV is a global product and should definitely be in every club because the videos are awesome PLUS you can run your own ads to boost secondary income.
Check out https://atmospheretv.com.au and or contact Troy – [email protected]

Myzone needs no introduction to the majority of the industry and we think most of those you know of Myzone.  We are huge fans as we love it when we train and see so many benefits in strengthening retention (having members train longer) through the engagement it offers you with your members.
What was super cool was at FitnessBiz in Perth, one of the attendees Karlee had a question on ‘relaunching’ Myzone in her club and Mike Beeney was more than willing to give her the playbook for a successful relaunch.  And that’s what we love about the company: they are there to help you get the most from the product on an ongoing basis!
Check out https://www.myzone.org or contact Mike – [email protected]
